First Meeting with Wiki :)

                                                                    JEAN VALJEAN

        Editing a Wiki page is something that gives students  freedom and a sense of authority to some degree and it has important implications for language teaching. Applying such a prjoect to the classroom is so wise because students think that their preferences are important and they have the right to decide on their own without being directed: they choose their favourite characters and write freely. Having the right to edit the page completely on your own ( word choice, character choice, adding any pictures and other realias etc.) gives them feeling that they are the ones who will take decisions and they are seen as individuals ; individuals who have their own taste and who can make up their minds in course works. Leading the students to edit a Wiki page is also motivating for them because they feel that they have followers of their pages : the teacher and their peers. Carrying the pressure of this in a reasonable extent, the students take more pains on the project which is one of the bringings of this project to the classroom.

         Similarly, we created a page for which only we’ll be hold responsible. Choosing a character was a bit time- consuming actually. But when I consider how time-saving the project itself is , it is nothing of value. We were due to give a detailed description of the character and brief information about the novel and to add related visual data such as videos, pictures etc. by providing reference.

        In my teaching years, I really want to use such a project in my class.I think, in the global world surrounded by advanced technology , we, futures' teachers,  will already have to use such technologies in our own classrooms. Therefore, knowing these educational technologies such as blogging, podcast , wiki gains more and more importance day by day.Creating their own Wiki page, my students become more creative and active in the classroom and in the learning process. It gives students an ethusiasm to participate in  and they also get the chance to evaluate themselves before the teacher seeing their friends’ pages.

         I chose the Jean Valjean character in the novel: Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.To learn more, please visit my page ;
